Is the 2026 Edition available as a PDF or eBook? No. The 2026 Edition is only available as an online subscription.
What is new in the 2026 Edition? See the Standards page on the TEMA website.
Does TEMA sell software? TEMA does not offer, endorse, or support software for heat exchanger design.
What is the effective date of the TEMA standards? The 2026 Edition standards were issued August 1, 2026. They are effective immediately but there is
a six-month grace period during which the Eleventh Edition is considered current for work in process.
The Eleventh Edition was published July 1, 2024.
The Tenth Edition was published April 8, 2019.
The Ninth Edition was published in 2007.
The Eighth Edition was published in 1999.
The Seventh Edition was published in 1988.
The Sixth Edition was published in 1978.
The Fifth Edition was published in 1968.
The Fourth Edition was published in 1959.
The Third Edition was published in 1952.
The Second Edition was published in 1949.
The First Edition was published in 1941.
Is the 2026 Edition the same as the Twelfth Edition? The change to online subscriptions allows more frequent publication of new versions. Therefore, the sequential numbering of editions is replaced by the year of publication - there is no Twelfth Edition.
Does that mean there will be a 2028 Edition? The intent is to publish new editions in the year between Code updates. However, that will depend on the development of new content, so there is not a commitment to a 2028 Edition.
Can I purchase an older version of the TEMA standards? TEMA does not offer old versions of the Standards except to current online subscribers. We recommend contacting technical school libraries to view older editions.
I purchased a subscription to the Eleventh Edition - how do I get the 2026 Edition? Current subscribers will automatically receive access to the 2026 Edition.
What are the classes of Heat Exchangers?
R - severe petroleum and related processing applications
C - commercial and general process applications
B - chemical process service
I have a subscription to the TEMA Standards and have a technical question TEMA cannot respond to general or specific design application questions, only to requests for interpretation of the Standards.

Does TEMA offer training? No, but here is a site with training information – arveng training and engineering. Note: TEMA does not review or endorse the curricula. If you know of other sources of training, please let us know!
Can you provide, or help me find, specific materials? No; TEMA is a trade association, not involved with procurement.
Can you provide a quote to build a heat exchanger? No; TEMA is a trade association. We do not manufacture heat exchangers.
Can I get a Sample Problem Book for the 2026 Edition? There is no Sample Problem Book for the 2026 Edition.
Will there an addendum or errata for the 2026 Edition? No. Updates will be made periodically and automatically, and subscribers will be notified.
May I have permission to reproduce parts of the Standards in another publication? Permission may be requested by email. Please identify the specific sections and the items you wish to reproduce.
If you have an authorization document you need signed please email it. Requests are reviewed by the membership and may take up to 21 days to get a reply.
